The Great Outdoors will be closed on Monday, July 2nd for inventory and on Wednesday , July 4th for the holiday. We'll see you all on the 5th as we resume regular business hours.

Back from the Great Northwest

So I just got back from the ANLA (American Nursery and Landscape Assoc.) Retail Roadshow '07!! What a great trip! We toured 14 nurseries in the Seattle, WA area and it was great. Many of their stores are similar to Austin nurseries, so I got lots of great ideas.

Look for some smaller changes arou8nd the nursery over the next couple of weeks and maybe even some bigger changes in the next couple of months.

Adventure Bucks are going out soon!

For all of our customers in the Garden Adventure Club, we are currently finalizing the Adventure Bucks for the last year (June '06- May '07) and will be sending out you gift certificates soon.

If you are not a member of the Adventure Club and would like to be, simply ask a plant consultant on your next visit.

Live Music at The Great Outdoors

The Great Outdoors will have live music the next two Sundays.

Sunday June 17th Jordan Price Duo from 12pm-2pm

Sunday June 24th Sandra and Max also 12pm-2pm

Bring the family out for free music, great shopping, delicious treats from our juice bar, and an all around good time.

And don't forget Father's Day this Sunday!!! We have a great selection of tools, Bonsai, plants, and beautiful pottery!

Questions Anyone??

So, we hope to use our blog as a way for customers to ask questions about plants, horticulture, lawn care, etc... Please limit questions to the gardening field and we will try to answer you ASAP.

Also, keep in mind that we do get very busy certain times of year and it may take a day or two to respond to your question.

Welcome

Welcome to our new blog. Merrideth, Mark and I, along with the rest of our team are excited about having this vehicle to connect with our customers and community about gardening in our unique Central Texas climate. There is no place quite our little spot in the middle of our great state. Though we can't grow (at least not very well) things that people love in other parts of the country, like lilacs and peonies because of our summer heat and alkaline soil, can can grow lots of other REALLY COOL plants that they cannot. Things like Rangoon Creeper, Erithrina, lots and lots of palms and cycads, wild and wacky natives and even flowering bulbs from South American and Africa!



This is your blog, too. A place that you can ask questions, give your comments and share your passion with your Austin gardening community. Obviously, this blog is intended to be for garden-related topics only, so please do not post any offensive, adult-content or commercial posts. Your cooperation is very much appreciated.
